3411557 - Clarifying Sequence in Waterfall Charts

Symptom

Sorting in Waterfall Chart fails in Story 2.0, and calculations for differences appear incorrect.

Environment

SAP Analytics Cloud

Cause

The waterfall chart display A – B instead of B - A.

Resolution

This is the standard behavior in the waterfall chart.

The waterfall chart will consistently display A – B due to the order of nodes in the data. When calculating a difference, it follows the sequence of nodes as they appear in the chart.

In our case, B appears first, and we plot B before determining the increase or decrease to A, resulting in "A – B." However, A is the result of adding B and all the deltas in this variance waterfall case.
