Symptom
The calculated depreciation per period differs from the anticipated value. Instead of consistent amounts with decimal precision in each period, the system produces rounded figures, resulting in uneven values across periods:
- The depreciation amount per period is not calculated with the expected decimal accuracy.
- Most periods show rounded values (even numbers), rather than precise amounts.
- This leads to inconsistencies between expected and actual depreciation postings.
Example:
- Net book value: LC 3,595.00
- Useful life: 3 years (36 periods)
- Expected depreciation per period: LC 99.86
- System-calculated depreciation per period: LC 99.60 or LC 100.00
This indicates the system is rounding or distributing depreciation differently than anticipated.
Environment
Reproducing the Issue
- Open Fixed assets work center and go to the Fixed Assets view.
- Select the respective fixed assets and press Edit - Values.
- In the Depreciation Overview sub-tab you notice, most periods show rounded values (even numbers), rather than precise amounts.
Cause
Arithmetic rounding based on the fixed asset’s net book value is configured for the selected valuation view. :
- In Business Configuration access the Fixed Asset Valuation View fine-tuning task.
- Locate the relevant valuation view and open the Rounding Rules sub-tab.
- The Base Value for Rounding Rule is set to Net Book Value.
- The applied rounding method is Arithmetic Rounding.
This configuration causes depreciation amounts to be rounded based on the asset’s net book value.
Resolution
If depreciation amounts per period should be calculated precisely (without rounding), update the rounding settings as follows:
- Open the Fixed Asset Valuation View fine-tune task.
- Locate the relevant valuation view and go to the Rounding Rules sub-tab.
- Set Base Value for Rounding Rule to No Rounding.
- Save and close the fine-tune activity.
To apply the change to an existing asset:
5. Open the fixed asset and make a temporary (dummy) change—switch the depreciation method to another option and then revert it to the original method.
6. Navigate to the Depreciation Overview tab to verify that exact (unrounded) amounts are now calculated for each period.
