Symptom
With the below Centralized Services switches enabled in 2H 2023 release, the User Id generation for Global Assignment & Concurrent Employment no longer follow 'Next Person Id Assigned'(In Company System and Logo settings). It will follow the rule set on the field 'Rule to generate next employee ID' in the 'Hire/Rehire Configuration' object (If the object is configured & Rule to generate next employee id is assigned).
- Enable Centralized Services to Add Concurrent Employment on the Manager Self-Service UI (and Enable Configurable Concurrent Employment)
- Enable Centralized Services for Global Assignment (Applicable for Add, Edit, End and Obsolete actions from UI)
This KBA explains the configuration required for the Rule 'Rule to generate next employee ID', if the requirement is to follow a different sequence of user id for Global Assignment & Concurrent Employments (than the Hire user ids).

Environment
- SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central - Global Assignment
- SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central - Concurrent Employment
Resolution
Important Note
- Make sure that no Hire/concurrent employment/global assignment transaction are done while configuring and testing the new configurations.
- Always configure and test in TEST instance before moving to Production environment
Configuration Steps
- Navigate to Admin Tools -> Company System and Logo Settings, and take note of the value in 'Next Person Id Assigned' (For Example: 103361)
- Navigate to Admin Tools -> Manage Data -> Create New -> Sequence -> Fill in the details and set the 'start' values as the value present in 'Next Person Id Assigned' (For Example: 103361) -> Save
- NOTE:
- You may use any sequence id, and not necessary to use the id mentioned in the 'Next Person Id Assigned'(especially for new implementations)
- You can either use the same 'Sequence' object for both Global Assignment and Concurrent Employment, or create another separate 'Sequence' object for 'Concurrent Employment'.
- NOTE:
- Navigate to Admin Tools -> Manage Data -> Hire/Rehire Configuration -> Open the rule configured in the field 'Rule to generate next employee ID'. (If there is no rule configured, you may create a new rule by following the steps in handbook Generating User IDs with Business Rules or create it using the example shown in Step 4)
- 'Insert new record' to modify the rule. Add the IF conditions to select the sequence based on the 'Event', 'Event Reason' (to separate Global Assignment/Concurrent employment vs New Hire). Example rule below:
- NOTE:
- For more details on the rule function 'Format()' and it's parameters, refer handbook: Implementing Business Rules in SAP SuccessFactors
- Make sure all Event Reasons related to Hire and Concurrent employment are present in the IF conditions.
- NOTE:
IMPORTANT
- You can temporarily disable the below Centralized Services switches from Admin Tools -> 'Company System and Logo Settings' in 2H 2023, if you need more time to enhance the 'Rule to generate next employee ID'. But please note that these switches will be universal in 1H 2024 release. Therefore, make sure that the rule is enhanced before 1H 2024 release.
- Enable Centralized Services to Add Concurrent Employment on the Manager Self-Service UI (and Enable Configurable Concurrent Employment)
