3412959 - Deployment Error: Failed to activate items of type BusinessConfigurationObject

Symptom

You are deploying a Solution patch to a tenant and during the Activation phase, you see the below errors:

"Error while activating BCO YXXXXXXXY_ of solution . Report an incident."

"Error occurred when activating table YXXXXXXXY_1100A1AB10A10AB1 (see activation log)"

"File name:ABC.bco"

Environment

  • SAP Business ByDesign
  • SAP Cloud Applications Studio
  • SAP Cloud for Customer

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Open the SAP Cloud Applications Studio.
  2. Upload your PDI Solution patch version.
  3. After upload, click Activate.

Cause

You have deleted the BCO (Business Configuration Object) in the previous patch version and recreated it with the same name while changing the structure of the BCO (for example, change of data type).

Resolution

To replace the BCO, you would need to deploy a transitional patch to the target tenant.

  1. Delete the required BCO in a patch version.
  2. Deploy to the target tenant.
  3. In the next patch version, create a BCO with the same name as deleted one with new structure.
  4. Deploy to target system.

Alternatively, best practice is not to reuse the same name as a deleted BCO.
