Symptom
- While creating a new Customer Group via Business Configuration, it is specified to use one of the prefixes V, W, X, Y, or Z.
- All alphabetic prefixes and numerics from 1-9 have already been used.
- The system does not allow the use of two-digit numbers or alphanumeric combinations.
Environment
SAP Business ByDesign
Reproducing the Issue
- Go to the Business Configuration work center.
- Go to Overview sub view.
- Search for the Customer Groups activity.
- Select 'Maintain Customer groups'.
- Try to give add row and enter Z10 (Alphanumeric), the error appears.
"Enter a value with no more than 2 characters".
Cause
While attempting to use three digits, such as Z10, results in the error message: "Enter a value with no more than 2 characters." The system does not accept customer group activities with three-digit alphanumeric values.
Resolution
The system is behaving as expected, based on a pre-defined custom configuration that restricts the Customer Group ID to a maximum of two characters.
- Additional Customer Groups with new custom IDs can be created using a pair of letters, such as:
- XA, XB, XC up to XX
- YA, YB, YC up to YY
- ZA, ZB, ZC up to ZZ
- Special characters like
!,?,#, etc., can also be used to create unique IDs, such as:- V1, V?, V#
- This approach allows for the creation and saving of a larger number of Customer Groups with new custom IDs without encountering errors.
