Username is not changed to the value you inserted when rehiring with old employment with this centralized service on: Enable Centralized Services to Add New Employee, Add New Employee for Fixed Term, and Rehire Inactive Employee.

SAP SuccessFactors Employee Central

1. Login instance and make sure " Enable Centralized Services to Add New Employee, Add New Employee for Fixed Term, and Rehire Inactive Employee" is enabled from Company System and Logo Settings then go to Rehire Inactive Users.
2. Choose the target user and and click on rehire employee with old employment.
3. New hire UI opens and change username to another username like username_2 and proceed to submit the request. 
4. Go to new user's profile and username is not changed to username_2 but remains as old one.

However if you disable " Enable Centralized Services to Add New Employee, Add New Employee for Fixed Term, and Rehire Inactive Employee", and replicate the above steps, username_2 can be saved successfully.

The fix would be delivered at 2405 release which is targeted at April 19th-21st for Preview and at May 17th-19th for Production.

As a workaround, please kindly disable " Enable Centralized Services to Add New Employee, Add New Employee for Fixed Term, and Rehire Inactive Employee" from Company System and Logo Settings.
