3419340 - Growth of Pool/finishGlobalSavePoint/IOBufferPool Memory Allocator During Full Data Backups in HANA DB

Symptom

  1. You have noticed increased memory consumption or Out Of Memory errors when taking HANA DB full data backups to a backint tool.
  2. You have already checked SAP KBA 2667371 and confirmed that the backup catalog has reasonable size. SAP HANA DB CoE recommends keeping it below 50 MB.
  3. In the HANA DB service traces or in the Out Of Memory Runtime Dumps generated when the issue occurred the "Pool/finishGlobalSavePoint/IOBufferPool" shows a significant size or appears as the top exclusive allocator such as in the example below:
    "
Top "M_HEAP_MEMORY" allocators (component, name, size). Ordered descending by exclusive_size_in_use.
    1: System:                                     Pool/finishGlobalSavePoint/IOBufferPool                                  XXXgb (XXXXXXXXXXXXb)
