You see the following error message in the message monitor in SAP Marketing Cloud "Value is longer than the maximum permitted length X: "ABC": Main Program:| Program:| Line: 0| Valid:".

• SAP Marketing Cloud.
• SAP Cloud for Customer.

1. You trigger replication of some data that contains an extension field from SAP Cloud for Customer to SAP Marketing Cloud.
2. Outbound from SAP Cloud for Customer shows as successful but in SAP Marketing Cloud you see the following error "Value is longer than the maximum permitted length X: "ABC": Main Program:| Program:| Line: 0| Valid:".

The extension field in SAP Marketing Cloud has a maintained maximum length of characters. Therefore, the value which exceeds this length is not processed by the system, so the message fails.

Search the inbound payload for the value represented as "ABC" in the following "Value is longer than the maximum permitted length X: "ABC": Main Program:| Program:| Line: 0| Valid:".

The field it appears in should look something like:

<ns4:YY1_XXX xmlns:ns4="http://SAPCustomFields.com/YY1_">ABC</ns4:YY1_XXX>

This field has a number of characters that exceed its allowed amount.

So either this field was incorrectly stored in Cloud for Customer with too many characters or there is an issue in your CPI mapping.

For testing, I suggest you to delete it in C4C and manually re-insert it.
