3425569 - You receive the Error Message "Invalid Sales order item" when you Assign a Sales Order item to Assignment Rules

Symptom

You try to assign an Assignment Rule to the "Not Invoiced Time and Expenses", when you assign Sales Order ABC (ABC represents the Sales Order ID) you receive the error "Invalid Sales order item".

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Go to the Project Management work center.
  2. Select the view Not Invoiced Time and Expenses.
  3. Select the drop down "All Projects".
  4. Search for Project ID XYZ (XYZ represents the Project ID).
  5. Select Edit Time and Expenses.
  6. Select Edit Assignment Rules.
  7. Enter the required values and Sales Order Item ABC-1 (ABC-1 represents the Sales Order Item ID).
  8. Select Apply Assigned Rules -> To All Items with Missing Sales Order Items.

Error appears: "Invalid Sales order item".

Cause

Sales Order status is set to completed or finished.

As the Sales Order is in status Completed/Finished - it is not available to be selected, and assigned against the items.

Resolution

Check the status of the Sales Order.

  1. Go to the Sales Order work center.
  2. Select the view Sales Order
  3. Search and find Sales Order ID ABC.
  4. Status of the Sales Order shows Completed or Finished.

You will either need to update the Sales Order status or select a different Sales Order to assign the items to.
