3425693 - SAC - table using restricted measures and calculated accounts shows different totals when adding dimension to columns

Symptom

Within one story, containing two reports sharing identical filters, calculated accounts, and restricted measures, when the user introduces a dimension (Entity) from the restricted measures to the columns and display totals, the total reported with the entity differs from the total reported without the entity.

Environment

SAP ANALYTICS CLOUD

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Create reports sharing identical filters, calculated accounts, and restricted measures.
  2. Add dimension (Entity) from the restricted measures to the columns
  3. Display totals which will be displayed incorrectly.

Cause

This is the standard behavior.

Resolution

In mathematics, with infinite calculation precision, the outcome of a calculation remains independent of the calculation process's path.

However, when computers perform the same calculations, the result can vary depending on the processing path.

An explanation (to some extent) for 'Totals' calculations can be found in SAP Note 2850354, using a different example.
