3427591 - Changes made to User-Created Account configuration are not visible on external Site registration form

Symptom

Any changes an admin is making to the default User-Created Account configuration (e.g. defining different custom fields or field visibility) is not visible on the registration form of some external Sites.

Environment

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Go to System Administration > Application Administration > User-Created Account
  2. Add a new custom field at the bottom and set it to be displayed and mandatory OR modify the visibility of a default field and hide it
  3. Apply changes
  4. When a new external user tries to register on a Site, the registration form is not including that selected custom field or still displaying the hidden default field

Cause

Sites are not always automatically taking over the changes you are making under the default User-Created Account menu section.

Normally when you are creating a Site, it is taking over the default values from the User-Created Account configured for the whole tenant but if you are making any changes to the same configuration directly on the Site entity (on User-Created Account tab) then you are breaking the connection and the Site will follow its own config from that point and disregard any changes being made to the global User-Created Account configuration afterwards.

Resolution

Depending on your business needs, you have 2 options.

  • Option A:

    1. Navigate to the Site entity itself > open it in Edit mode

    2. Switch to User-Created Account tab of the Site

    3. If data is greyed out, scroll to the bottom of the page as you might need to select the Edit button

    4. Define the custom fields and their visibility OR modify the default fields' visibility as needed

    5. Apply changes

  • Option B:

    1. If you would like to restore the connection between the Site config and the global User-Created Account config, then you can select Restore Default button on the same tab which will take over the current settings from the global User-Created Account config (meaning it will overwrite all of the changes you have done to customize the fields and their visibility specifically on this Site entity)
