Symptom

  • System stored procedure not returning and hangs
  • An sp stored procedure command stays in execution and does not complete
  • A system proc hangs with no error observed
    • This can be seen for any system procedure, example provided here is sp_dropdevice

    • sp_dropdevice command is not working
    • Not able to drop any other device.
    • No error is sent to client or ASE log
    • No long running transactions are observed from command:

      select * from master..syslogshold
      go
