Symptom
In Project Plan, you maintained some work (service) and material item. However, you see no value or unexpected value showing in the Total Cost field.
Environment
SAP Business ByDesign
Reproducing the Issue
- Go to Project Management work center
- Go to Project view
- Open a Project
- Go to Project Plan, Work subtab
- You see for Service item ABC (ABC stands for the service ID), the total cost is missing or wrong
- Or

- Go to Project Plan, Materials subtab
- You see for Material item DEF(DEF stands for the service ID), the total cost is missing or wrong
Cause
The Total Cost in project screen is displaying the total planned cost of the item. It is calculated based on the Planned Quantity (X) and the Cost Rate (Y) in the same screen.
Total Cost = X*Y
If the cost rate is not found, even there is planned quantity, the Total Cost is showing as blank.
If the planned quantity is 0, even there is cost rate and actual quantity, the Total Cost is showing as 0.
Resolution
Please ensure the planned quantity and cost rate is correct maintained for the service/material item.
