3435584 - Bank Statement Posting Failed "must match closing balance of the previous bank statement"

Symptom

When posting a bank statement the following error message appears 

ID ABC: Opening balance X must match closing balance of the previous bank statement Y. (ABC represents the Statemen ID).

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Go to the Liquidity Management work center.
  2. Select the view Bank Statements.
  3. Select the dropdown: All Bank Statements.
  4. Select the Advance Filter.
  5. Enter Bank Account ID: 123 (123 represents the Bank Account ID).
  6. Select Statement ID ABC (This is the Bank Statement that you are trying to post).
  7. Select View All
  8. Select Next until Step 5 Review

Error : 
ID ABC: Opening balance X must match closing balance of the previous bank statement Y.

Cause

The error messages received while posting bank statements is correct.

The opening balance of a bank statement must match the closing balance of the previous bank statement. You need to check the balances with your bank to provide the correct values in the file.

Resolution

When posting a Bank Statement there is a field titled Validity Year.

  1. Go to the Liquidity Management work center.
  2. Select the view Bank Statements.
  3. Select the dropdown: All Bank Statements.
  4. Select the Bank Statement that you are trying to post.
  5. Select View All.
  6. Check the Validity Year

Now look at the last Bank statement posted for that Year. Check the closing balance of that statement. This closing balance should match the opening balance of the new Statement.
