3437447 - Date dimension needs to be specified with a non-null default value when importing data into model with New Model type (Model with Measures) in SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC)

Symptom

  • Rows with empty date (including null, zero) value are rejected while running import jobs in model with New model type (Model with Measures)
  • When setting up import for an import job in a model with New Model type (Model with Measures), it is required to specify a non-null default value for the date dimension in "Map to Facts"
  • This issue does not happen to classic model.

Environment

  • SAP Analytics Cloud 2024.2.8

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Login to SAC
  2. Create a model with New Model type (Model with Measures) and insert a date dimension into this model
  3. Navigate to the Data Management workspace
  4. Create an import job
  5. Click on the button "Set Up Import" on this import job
  6. On the following "Prepare Data" page, click on the Next button after finishing the data preparation step
  7. On the following "Map to Facts" page, navigate to "Unmapped" and find out the unmapped date dimension
    Scenario 1:
  8. On this unmapped date dimension, click on the three dot graph button on "Drop a column" box under "Source"
=> Observe that "Set Default Value" panel would pop up and a non-null default value is required to be specified for this date dimension if there is no source column is selected to map the target date dimension.
=> Unable set default value to blank/null/zero value.
    Scenario 2:
  9. For this unmapped date dimension, drag and drop a Source Column to map this date dimension
  10. Finish the set up of the import job and run this import job
=> Observe that Rows with empty date value would be rejected while data refreshing

Cause

  • It is expected behavior of the product.

Resolution

  • The new data import architecture for model with New model type (Model with Measures) has differences to the data import for the classic account model data import in terms of features. One difference is that in this new data import process, it does not differentiate planning and non-planning model for date dimension. In both cases it doesn’t allow entering empty date in the fact table. The empty date value from the source data will be rejected.
