3439732 - Account IDs imported by Data Workbench were not generated in 1 increment

Symptom

When using Data Workbench to generate Account IDs, the first ID not begins with the low value of the number range and not receive gapless numbers.

Environment

SAP Cloud for Customer

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Go to Data Workbench Work center.
  2. Import Work center view.
  3. Import Account Data, Account IDs have been generated Automatically.
  4. The first ID is not 1,is 10 and the second ID is not 11, is 21.

Cause

As in our number range we use buffering. This means that the number range service allows allocates a bunch of numbers when creating a new business partner. This means that the first could be created with a number of 10 while then the next could be 21. So with buffering enabled you can't expected to get sequential numbers. Buffering is needed for performance reasons, as otherwise drawing of new number would be very slow.

Wasting of a range of numbers can happen in following scenarios:

  1. Simulation of DWB import.
  2. Cancellation of transactions due to errors in data.

With that it is possible that also an area of several hundred numbers are skipped and not used in master data.

Resolution

This is a system standard behavior.
