3440654 - Output preview for output item with status "Completed" is blank while the preview works well for those in status "In preparation"

A new form template which is a PDF-based print forms with fragments one is developed and used in sales and billing documents output. Also the gateway service in this form template is based on CDS view. When trying to preview the form template for the output item in status 'Completed', no data can be displayed. But for the output item in status 'In preparation' or 'To be output' by using same form template, data can be shown well.

The standard is designed to render PDF documents associated with output types in status 'To be output', 'In preparation' and 'Completed' differently.

An output item which is in status 'To Be Output' or 'In preparation', data for rendered PDF document is being retrieved using transient data (current document attributes). So application internal tables which are loaded when the document is opened in application transaction (for example, VA02, VA03 the internal table VBAK for sales document) are used as the source of data for rendering the PDF document associated with output types assigned this status.

On the other hand, for output items which are in the process of being issued (output item with status 'Completed'), the source of data for the rendered PDF document is retrieved from the database using the CDS View associated with the gateway service. 

In customer own developed form template, if the gateway service is based on a CDS view which restricts data based on some document specific information such as document category, then this kind of problem will occur.

For example, a form template has been developed based on standard gateway service 'FDP_V1_ORDER_CONFIRM_SRV' and this gateway service is based on CDS view I_SALESORDER. While due to CDS view I_SALESORDER is restricted on document category C - Order, if using this form template with a sales document assigned a document category other than C - Order, data cannot be retrieved and displayed for output item in status 'Completed'.

This issue is specific to output for sales and billing documents as the gateway services are based on CDS View. The issue can be resolved by ensuring the based CDS view in the gateway service to be used to fulfill the own business needs.

This may not be true for other application output types which may have different ways of retrieving data for rendered PDF document. For document rendering problem raised in other application output types, please raise case under the corresponding application component.
