3442304 - Enable DKIM and DMARC for your e-mail sending domains

Symptom

Google announced to change their policies. What effects will this have on sending out emails?

Environment

SAP Business ByDesign

Cause

It will effect sender domain and also receiver domain.

Gmail and Yahoo is rolling out new stringent e-mail sender guidelines that enforces stricter e-mail authentication checks. These updates have the potential to affect the delivery and handling of business / bulk e-mails that you send to recipients.

To ensure that your e-mails are delivered to Gmail and Yahoo email accounts without any disruptions, it requires all senders to have SPF, DKIM and DMARC authentication enabled.

We have already completed the required actions to activate SPF checks for all outbound e-mails.

This will effect also the receiver email.

Resolution

SAP is recommending to configure DMARC as other companies will follow.

Action Required:

  • Enabling DKIM for your sender domain is already a mandatory step - Please refer to following blog on how to enable DKIM for your sender domain(s) if not already done - DKIM Enablement for Sender Domains - ByD.
  • Set up DMARC (Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting, and Conformance) for email authentication.
  • Please align with your network and security experts to create TXT records in your DNS Servers for DMARC enablement.
  • We highly recommend to enable DKIM and DMARC for the domains that are configured in ByD to send emails (even though you don’t use Gmail or Yahoo as recipients / sender domains, there may be more and more e-mail service providers who would apply this guidelines later so we would request to enable DMARC for the domains).
