3444414 - "ORA-12545: Connect failed because target host or object does not exist" error in Datasphere

Symptom

Creating "Oracle" connection for Data Flows in Datasphere and validating it, results in a pop-up with the following message:

"ORA-12545: Connect failed because target host or object does not exist"

Environment

  • SAP Datasphere

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Logon to Datasphere tenant
  2. Display "Local Connections"  for your Space in "Space Management"
  3. Select the connection type "Oracle" and use "Validate Connection" button
  4. Error message is displayed 

Cause

Oracle database is not available on the public internet.

Resolution

Before using the connection for data flows, the following is required:

  • To directly consume data in data flows, the Oracle database must be available on the public internet.
