3445411 - Cores don't load after upgrade to solr 9 due to org.apache.lucene.index.IndexFormatTooOldException

Symptom

"Image/data in this KBA is from SAP internal systems, sample data, or demo systems. Any resemblance to real data is purely coincidental."

After solr version upgrade to 9.2 the cores don't get initialized and remain in "Down" status.

In Solr Administration console there is notification like below:

SolrCore Initialization Failures
master_(index_name): org.apache.solr.common.SolrException:org.apache.solr.common.SolrException: Error opening new searcher

There are errors trackable in OpenSearch during the deployment when the solr pods get restarted and the cores are being initialized and loaded.The logs are as follows

ERROR () [] o.a.s.c.CoreContainer Error waiting for SolrCore to be loaded on startup => java.util.concurrent.ExecutionException: org.apache.solr.common.SolrException: Unable to create core [master_]

Caused by: org.apache.solr.common.SolrException: Unable to create core [master_(index_name)]
