3446837 - Commit tran issue in SAP ASE SP04 PL05

Symptom

  • After upgrading to ASE SP04 PL05
  • A transaction sequences that previously worked in an older release, no longer completes
  • A process no longer correctly commits the transaction.
  • This can show through an application error, incorrect result set or a 'silent' failure when a transaction is rolled back

  • The ASE log may show message

    Transaction count after EXECUTE indicates that a COMMIT or ROLLBACK TRAN is missing. Previous count = 1, Current count = 0

  • In SAP Data Services the issue shows by returning error 12104 when trying to log in with the DS Designer:

    ERROR: Sybase SQL Server <DS_ASE> error message for operation <ct_results>:
    <Sybase Server message number <12104> State <1> Severity <16> From Server <DS_ASE>:
    Message Text is: A LOCK TABLE command is not allowed outside the scope of a transaction on table 'AL_USERS' in the database 'DS_DBNAME'.
