3447196 - Color Palette defined for a Bar Chart changed after modifying anything unrelated to the chart on the Story in SAP Analytics Cloud

Symptom

  • Bar Chart color change.
  • Color Palette for Chart changes on it's own.
  • When modifying anything on a specific Story, the color of the Bar Chart changes in SAP Analytics Cloud.
For example: The bar colors changes from blue, to orange.

Environment

  • SAP Analytics Cloud 2024.2.8

Reproducing the Issue

  1. In SAP Analytics Cloud, create a Story.
  2. Add a new Page with a Bar Chart.
  3. Set the color for the Bar Chart. For example: blue.
  4. On the first Page of the Story, make any changes, and save the Story. For example: Add a Text widget.
  5. View the Story, select the Page containing the charts.
  6. Notice the Bar Chart color changed. For example: It changed from blue, to orange.

Cause

  • Color Sync does not guarantee the same colors between all the charts.
  • Color Sync match the palette across all the charts with the same dimension, but the actual coloring is done on a measure/dimension pairing basis.
  • The actual coloring may change based off of it coloring something else first due to timing, all that can be guaranteed is consistency between the measure/dimension pairings.

Resolution

  • To have charts to be consistently one color while leveraging color sync, create a new palette with only the single color you'd like everything in the color sync to be colored as.
