Symptom
Although a material has been marked for deletion in the material master, users are still able to create a sales order using that material. When the material is added to the sales order, the system displays a warning message: "Material &1 is marked for deletion". However, the sales order can still be saved and processed despite this warning.
Environment
SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition
Reproducing the Issue
- Create a sales order using a material that has been marked for deletion.
- Upon adding the material to the sales order, the system displays a warning message: "Material &1 is marked for deletion."
- Despite the warning, the sales order is still allowed to be saved and processed.
Cause
- This is standard system behavior in SAP Sales and Distribution (SD).
- SAP allows sales order creation for materials marked for deletion to accommodate scenarios where remaining stock of such materials still needs to be sold.
- Marking a material for deletion does not automatically block its usage in sales processes unless additional restrictions are configured.
Resolution
The ability to create a sales order with materials marked for deletion is standard system behavior in SAP Sales and Distribution (SD). This ensures that businesses can still process sales for materials flagged for deletion, such as selling off existing stock.
