3452127 - AS Java fails to start - jstart.exe has the status "some process running"

Symptom

The AS Java system is down and jstart.exe has the status "Some processes running" when trying to restart it.

The AS Java system uses an ABAP user source on UME configuration.

On Std_ServerX.out files, the following error can be seen:

com.sap.engine.frame.ServiceException: Start of UME service failed. Check help topic "Start of UME Service Failed". Technical details: com.sap.conn.jco.JCoException: (103) JCO_ERROR_LOGON_FAILURE: Initialization of destination UMEBackendConnection failed: SNC required for this connection
