3453333 - A select statement reports Error 1526 on cache when single page pool is low - SAP ASE

Symptom

  • A select statement may reports Error 1526 on tempdb cache when the single page size pool in the cache is low. It may also report the error on default data cache when the tempdb is not bound to any named cache.
  • The query may use Union or IN list .
  • Use sp_altermessage with stack option on Msg 1526, the following stack reports in errorlog when the query failed with Error 1526.

Error: 1526, Severity: 17, State: 5
Sort failure. The configure size for data cache (tempdb2_cache) is not sufficient to handle the sort buffers (128) requested. Please reconfigure the data cache or sort buffers and try the command again.
