Symptom
You would like to know why the system is not altering the valuation of the Sales Kits even with the following scoping question “Do you want to valuate sales kit based on kit component costs?” scoped.
In the inventory history, you can see that the valuation price for the single components of the kit has changed, but you can't find any changes in the valuation price of the kit itself.
Environment
SAP Business ByDesign
Reproducing the Issue
- Go to Inventory Valuation work center.
- Go to Materials subview.
- Search for Material ID: XYZ (XYZ represents the sales kit ID).
- Click in View Cost History.
- Here we can in all previous periods that you don't have any history for this material (Sales Kit).
Or
- Go to the Service and Product Portfolio Work Center.
- Go to the Products View.
- Filter for All Products.
- In the search field, search for the Sales Kit XYZ.
- Mark the Sales Kit XYZ.
- Open, Select View All.
- Navigate to the Valuation tab.

Cause
The scoping Question "Do you want to valuate sales kit based on kit component costs?", is only related to the cost price components of the sales order items. In terms of Inventory valuation, only the cost of the kit's products are considered. Therefore, when you purchase a sales kit you actually purchase the separate the products of the kit rather than the kit itself. So, the inventory cost of these separate products is updated after the goods receipts, but not the inventory cost of the sales kit.
You can also check in the Purchasing Documents - Line Items report where only the components of the kits appear.
Resolution
Expected system behavior.
