Symptom
- Unable to create query from one specific OData service of SAP S/4HANA based on Import Data connection in SAP Analytics Cloud (SAC)
- Error "The following error message comes from the external data service: undefined" appears without going to Build Query screen.
- Error "Response from external server has status code of 500" could be found in Chrome Network Trace (HAR file)
- Error "No System Alias found for Service '<service name>' and user '<current user>'" could be observed when trying to access the metadata URL of the OData service
Environment
- SAP Analytics Cloud, Enterprise Edition
- SAP S/4HANA On-Premise 2021
- Import Data connection to SAP S/4HANA
Reproducing the Issue
- Log in to SAC tenant.
- Try to create a new Import Data connection to SAP S/4HANA with Data Service URL including '?sap-client=<...>'.
- Try to create a new model based on the connection.
- Select Create a New Query option and then click on Next button.
- Search the affected OData Service, select it and then click on Next button.
=> Error "The following error message comes from the external data service: undefined" appears without going to Build Query screen. - Tring to access the metadata of the OData Service from browser or SAP Gateway Client (T-code: /n/IWFND/GW_Client) using same sap-client.
=> Error "No System Alias found for Service '<service name>' and user '<current user>'" could be observed.
Cause
- A system alias was not defined for the OData service in the SAP S/4HANA system, so no backend is available to service the request.
Resolution
- Add System Alias for the affected OData Service by logging to the S/4HANA system using the same sap-client and then running transaction /N/IWFND/MAINT_SERVICE.
