3462818 - Gaps in Number Range assignment when creating material documents

• There are gaps in number assignment for material documents.
• One or more missing numbers for an interval can be noticed.
• There are jumps in the allocation of a number range object.

SAP S/4HANA Cloud

According to the buffering configuration of number range objects, some gaps could happen during number range assignment.

In S/4HANA Cloud system material document have the combined keys material document number and fiscal year. The material document number is retrieved from more than one number range object interval. This setup ensures a high throughput during parallel processing and an almost infinite set of keys. However, it also does not guarantee a continuous numbering. In addition, please keep in mind that the material document posting date determines when a material posting is valid from a business process perspective. E.g. Material document 100 posted with posting date 22.03.2024 on the 23.03.2024 (Creation Date) becomes valid before material document 99 posted with posting date 23.03.2024 on the 22.03.2024 (Creation Date).
