3466079 - Why Check-in Latitude and Check-in Longitude Cannot Be Made Mandatory Fields

Symptom

When attempting to make the fields for Check-In Altitude, Check-In Longitude, Check-In Latitude, Start Altitude, Check-Out Altitude, Check-Out Latitude, and Check-Out Longitude mandatory in the User menu > Start Adaptation, the system does not allow these changes to be saved. This issue is preventing the enforcement of necessary data entry for these fields.

Environment

SAP Cloud for Customer

Reproducing the Issue

1. Navigate to the User menu.
2. Select Start Adaptation.
3. Try to make the fields Check-In Altitude, Check-In Longitude, Check-In Latitude, Start Altitude, Check-Out Altitude, Check-Out Latitude, Check-Out Longitude mandatory.
4. Notice that these fields cannot be made mandatory.

Cause

The fields for Check-In Altitude, Check-In Longitude, Check-In Latitude, Start Altitude, Check-Out Altitude, Check-Out Latitude, and Check-Out Longitude are not designed to be mandatory in the system. This is due to the fact that these fields are dependent on the GPS location of the user at the time of check-in or check-out. If the user's device does not have GPS capabilities or if the GPS is not turned on, these fields will not be populated. Making these fields mandatory would prevent users without GPS capabilities from being able to check-in or check-out.

Resolution

  • The fields for Check-In Altitude, Check-In Longitude, Check-In Latitude, Start Altitude, Check-Out Altitude, Check-Out Latitude, and Check-Out Longitude cannot be made mandatory because they are system calculated fields. These fields are automatically populated by the system based on the GPS location of the user at the time of check-in or check-out.
  • Making these fields mandatory would mean that the user would have to manually input these values, which is not feasible or accurate. Therefore, these fields are designed to be optional and automatically filled by the system.
  • If you want to ensure that these fields are always populated, you should advise your users to always allow the system to access their GPS location when using the application. This will ensure that the system can accurately calculate and populate these fields.
