3466364 - Workflow Rule fails Randomly with Field Update that uses Formula

Symptom

Workflow Fails with message as below:

  • An error occurred while evaluating the formula.

Environment

SAP Cloud for Customer

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Create a workflow rule with formula
  2. Fields used in the formula should be a number and longer than 6 digits
  3. Workflow rule fails randomly with mentioned error message

Cause

When the number being evaluated in the formula is longer than 6 digits, the number is shown in different format depending on the User's 'Decimal Notation' Setting.

It will show as '1 234 567,89' or '1.234.567,89' or '1,234,567.89'. When it is considered as '1 234 567,89', the system processes it as '1', '234' and '567,89'. Therefore the formula fails with an error.

Resolution

Go to Affected User and change 'Decimal Notation' to either '1,234,567.89' or '1.234.567,89'
