3468546 - saphostctrl is unable to connect to SQL Server database instance - NetWeaver

Symptom

saphostctrl is unable to connect to SQL Server database instance:

  • "saphostctrl -function GetDatabaseStatus -dbname <SID> -dbtype mss" fails with "Error: Database not found".
  • "saphostctrl.exe -function GetDatabaseProperties -dbname <SID> -dbtype MSS" fails with "Error: The MS SQL Server instance <hostname> does not exist."
  • When running the "saphostctrl -function ListDatabases" command, multiple instances are returned on the same host:

               Instance name: <SID1>, Hostname: <hostname>, Vendor: MSS, Type: mss, Release: xx
                  Database name: <SID1>, Status: Running
                  ...

               Instance name: <SID2>, Hostname: <hostname>, Vendor: MSS, Type: mss, Release: xx
                  Database name: <SID2>, Status: Running
                  ...
