3470313 - The system grants completion for course bought with a second voucher before the user completes the content

Symptom

The user purchased a course using voucher '1' but did not complete it. The order associated with the voucher was cancelled and refunded. When the user clicks on "continue course," the system asks for a new voucher. After entering voucher '2', the course is removed from the user's learning plan.

Environment

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Considering an item that has a survey required for completion.
  2. Considering that External User#1 bough a voucher for that course: Voucher code: A
  3. Considering that External User#2 bough a voucher for that course: Voucher code: B
  4. A third user, user #3, buy the course with the voucher of User#1: "A" >
  5. Starts the course and complete the content but not the required survey >
  6. Go back to the learning home page and note the survey is assigned to the user and accessible directly from the Learning Plan.

  7. The order bought by User#1 is canceled.

  8. The User#3 clicks on "Continue Course" from the Learning Plan and enters the voucher from User#2: "B" >
  9. Note the progress previously made (step 5) was reset and now the user#3 needs to start the course from the beginning >
  10. Go Back to Learning Plan and Click on "Start Survey" >
  11. The system prompts the survey and allows the user to complete the survey. Once the survey is completed, the system grants completion to the item and removes both survey (that was assigned to the user progress in step 5) and course from the user learning plan.

After the first voucher was canceled, the user#3 progress was reset, therefore the survey shouldn't be available for the user.

Cause

Considering that the User already has a record of the contents in a complete state, this entitled him/her to access the required survey directly from the learning plan. Furthermore, once the survey is completed the learning progress and item completion is moved from Learning Plan to learning history. So, the user can either access the survey directly or take the course again. This is working as designed and confirmed by the PM team.

Resolution

If this is an important topic for your company, we encourage you to submit an enhancement request to have this behavior changed in upcoming releases. You can do this on our Customer Community Portal, and for detailed steps on how to raise an enhancement request you can also follow the KBA 2090228.

A suggestion is that if the admins cancel a used voucher, they should inform the users about this action and behavior and advise them to take the survey directly instead of retaking the course.
