3471028 - Not able to change the activity type (Costing, Cost rates) for service orders from the current SV01 to an alternative one

Attempts to change the default activity type SV01 to an alternative activity type for use in service orders and confirmations are unsuccessful.

Although cost centers are assigned through teams, and alternative cost rates and activity types are maintained, the system continues to default to SV01. No option is available to select other activity types in service order processing. This results in cost determination errors if no rate is maintained for SV01.

SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

1. Open the Manage Service Orders app.
2. Select a service order and navigate to the Output Control tab.
3. Review existing service confirmations and note that there is no option to define or change the activity type.
4. Create and save a new confirmation for the service order.
5. Use the Cost Center - Actuals app to review the resulting cost postings by selecting the relevant cost center, activity type, and posting period.
   • The system consistently uses the activity type SV01 for actual postings, regardless of any other activity types that may be defined.
6. Review the team assignment using the Manage Teams and Responsibilities app.
   • There is no available field or setting to configure the activity type in the team setup.
7. In the Manage Cost Rates - Services app, verify that cost rates exist for various activity types.
   • Even when alternative activity types and corresponding cost rates are maintained, they are not used during confirmation.
   • If a rate is not defined for SV01, the system raises the following error message during confirmation:

Error Message:
No prices could be determined for object Activity type <Controlling Area>/<Cost Center>/SV01.

Diagnosis:
No price could be found for object Activity type <Controlling Area>/<Cost Center>/SV01 with price indicator 3 and value type 1.

The system is hardcoded to use the standard activity type SV01 for service products in service orders and confirmations. No functionality is currently available in SAP S/4HANA Cloud, Public Edition, to define or assign alternative activity types within this process.

Using alternative activity types in service orders is not supported in SAP S/4HANA Cloud, Public Edition. The system will always refer to SV01 as the designated activity type for cost determination in service confirmations. Even if alternative activity types and cost rates are configured, they will not be utilized during service order processing.
