3474778 - Error message "Define <XXXX/XX/XX> first as a general sales area (V2127)" appears when assigning sales document types permitted for sales areas

When assigning sales document types permitted for sales areas in the configuration activity:

Assign Sales Document Types Permitted for Sales Areas (ID: 102185)

the following error message appears:

"Define <XXXX/XX/XX> first as a general sales area (V2127)"

SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

1. Maintain a new distribution channel and assign it to a sales organization/division combination.
2. In Combine Distribution Channels (ID: 102183), assign the new distribution channel to an existing reference distribution channel.
3. Open Assign Sales Document Types Permitted for Sales Areas (ID: 102185).
4. Try to maintain sales document type assignments for the new sales area directly.
5. Error message V2127 – “Define <XXXX/XX/XX> first as a general sales area” is raised.

The configuration activities required to define a sales area as a general/reference sales area are incomplete or inconsistent.

Before maintaining Assign Sales Document Types Permitted for Sales Areas (ID: 102185), the following configuration activities must be completed:

1. Combine Sales Organizations (ID: 102182) – maintain Ref. SOrg
2. Combine Distribution Channels (ID: 102183) – maintain RefDistCh.
3. Combine Divisions (ID: 102184) – maintain RefDivDoc

Additionally, if a distribution channel is assigned to a reference distribution channel in Combine Distribution Channels (ID: 102183), the sales document type assignments are inherited from the reference distribution channel. In this case, separate maintenance for the dependent distribution channel in ID 102185 is not required.

Example: If distribution channel 90 has reference distribution channel 10, then sales area 1000/90/10 inherits the sales document type assignments from 1000/10/10.

1. Check and complete the following configuration activities:
   • Combine Sales Organizations (ID: 102182) – set Ref. SOrg
   • Combine Distribution Channels (ID: 102183) – set RefDistCh.
   • Combine Divisions (ID: 102184) – set RefDivDoc
2. If the new distribution channel should use the same sales document types as the reference distribution channel, do not maintain separate entries in Assign Sales Document Types Permitted for Sales Areas (ID: 102185).
3. If the new distribution channel requires different sales document type assignments, change the reference distribution channel setting in Combine Distribution Channels (ID: 102183) so the distribution channel references itself. Then maintain the required assignments in Assign Sales Document Types Permitted for Sales Areas (ID: 102185).
