3476310 - Unified Data Model - Limit Search by locale setting is missing when UDM is enabled

Symptom

When the Unified Data Model is enabled, the switch Limit Search by Locale is no longer configurable but is applied automatically and cannot be disabled.
This KBA explains:

  • What the switch did
  • The logic behind the decision to remove the option to disable it
  • What this means in terms of search results behavior
  • What this means in terms of configuration requirements

Environment

SAP SuccessFactors Recruiting Marketing

Resolution

What the switch did
The Limit search by Locale setting available for non UDM sites allows customers to decide whether or not they want to filter the search results according to the selected site locale.
Disabling this setting therefore means all jobs are shown regardless of the locale selected and the locale of the job.

The logic behind the decision to remove the option to disable it

  • Disabling Limit Search by locale causes the following behaviors:
    - Jobs posted in several locales in RCM are duplicated in the search results on the RMK site.
    - A candidate selecting a specific locale could still see jobs posted in a different locale.
These are clearly bad search experiences which may cause confusion and candidate loss.
  • The setting allowed recruiters to apply bad requisition creation practices by creating the content for some instead of all the locales they decided to enable in RMK. As a best practice, all locales enabled in RCM should be enabled in RMK and all corresponding field and translation configurations done.
  • Cross locale search is not the industry standard or the expected behavior for site visitors and does not provide good search results.
  • Some currently available features require this setting to be enabled such as:
    - The Google map : see Enabling Search Filtered by Locale Setting for Google Job Maps
    - Localized keyword stemming : See Keyword Stemming Support on Career Site Search
  • Some planned enhancements and upcoming features will require it.

To address these issues, it was decided that Limit Search by locale would be enabled by default upon UDM enablement with no option to disable it.

What this means in terms of search results behavior
Jobs which are only posted in some locales will only be visible when these locales are selected in the site's locale selector.

What this means in terms of configuration requirements
All jobs should be posted in all configured locales across RCM and RMK and localized content created.
Note some upcoming enhancements will support customers in their effort to create the required localized data for their postings such as Generative AI Translations for job postings.
