3476732 - Error Occurs While Trying To Download a Report From Financials

Symptom

The error 'Failed to open report "Internal Server Error" - report an incident' occurs while trying to download the result of a Report from Financials (such as G/L Account Line Items, Journal, etc.).

Environment

SAP Business ByDesign

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Go to the Business Analytics Work Center.
  2. Go to the Design Reports view.
  3. Open the desired Financials Report.
  4. In the data selection field, enter the Company ID, Set of Books and the Accounting Period.
  5. Click on Apply.
  6. Click on the Share option and try to download the report in XML or CSV format.
  7. Error "Failed to open report "Internal Server Error" - report an incident" appears.

Cause

This error may occur under the following conditions:

  1. The Report requests an excessive number of records or fields.
  2. The Report runs out of memory due to the volume of records processed, combined with the complexity of the custom data source or report.
  3. The Report runs for an extended period, leading to a time-out.

Resolution

To prevent the Report from causing this error, reduce the number of records by filtering some variables in the report (by restricting the Account Period/Year). For instance, if the report fails when retrieving data for an entire year, try running it in two separate batches: one for the first half of the year and another for the second half.
