3477426 - Rest adapter OAuth authentication not working after an SP update

Symptom

You are using the Rest adapter with OAuth authentication. After an SP update this stopped working and the channel ping test returns the below error:

"HTTP Communication Error. Could not retrieve oAuth Token"

Checking the HTTP Client logs you notice that the below response is sent: 

"HTTP_CLIENT : 33 REPLY: 
{"error":"invalid_client_id","error_description":"Client xxx is not registered in the system."}"
