3478517 - Revenue Recogntion Error Message: AccrualMeth. assignment for fixed price project incomplete

Symptom

  • The revenue recognition run finishes with error message "AccrualMeth. assignment for fixed price project incomplete" for sales order item XYZ-XX (XYZ-XX represents a sales order item ID). 
  • The fix-price sales order item XYZ-XX is connected to project ABC (ABC represents the project ID).  
  • There are further fix-price sales order items such as DEF-DD associated with project ABC (DEF-DD represents a sales order item of another sales order connected to project ABC). 
  • All fix-price sales order items associated with project ABC are assigned to accrual method 108 - Recognize using cost-to-cost project POC. 

Why does this error message still appear?

Reproducing the Issue

  1. In the Cost and Revenue work center go to the Sales Document Items view.
  2. Open the Advanced search.
  3. In the Project ID field enter ABC. 
  4. The sales order items XYZ-XX and DEF-DD appear.
  5. In the Accounting Data tab you verify that both items are assigned to accrual method 108 - Recognize using cost-to-cost project POC. 
  6. However, the revenue recognition run fails for one of the items, for example DEF-DD with the error "AccrualMeth. assignment for fixed price project incomplete".

Cause

When using accrual method 108-Recognize using cost-to-cost project POC all fixed-price sales order items that are in the same project are bundled into a single item for the purposes of revenue recognition. This single item is the Leading Sales Document item. 

Due to an inconsistency it can happen that after assigning accrual method 108 to all the project's fix-price item, no such leading item got generated. 

You check this as follows:

  1. Select each sales order item separately. 
  2. In the Accounting Data tab check the Assignment of Accrual Methods table. 
  3. Here, the Leading Sales Doc. Item field should be filled for all items that are not the leading item:
    • If item XYZ-XX is the leading item then it will appear in the Leading Sales Doc. Item field for item DEF-DD.  
    • As item XYZ-XX is the leading item, the Leading Sales Doc item field will not be visible. 
  4. The data is inconsistent if none of the different fix-price sales order items show a leading sales order item. 

Resolution

Perform a dummy change: 

  1. Select all fix-price items of project ABC. 
  2. Press Reassign and choose Accrual Method. 
  3. Assign a different accrual method, such as 101- Reverse Deferrals and Accruals. 
  4. After this, select all items again and then reassign accrual method  108 - Recognize using cost-to-cost project POC. 
  5. Now all sales order items that are not the leading sales order item, here DEF-DD, should show a leading sales doc. item, here XYZ-XX.
