3480887 - C+715 error raised in post closing step of actual costing run

Symptom

When executing 'Post Closing' step of actual costing run, error C+715 raised:
You are not allowed to execute closing entries in period xxx / YYYY.

Environment

SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

Cause

The error message C+715 occurs when incorrect closing steps in the Material Ledger are taken. This error usually occurs when trying to close the current period for a material in the Material Ledger.
Closing entries can only be posted for the previous period not for the current period. You may check the current period via APP 'Close Periods', option 'Check Periods' only.

Resolution

It does not make sense to post closing entries for the current period in the Material Ledger, because after the closing entries are posted, no further material postings are possible for the period.
If this was allowed for the current period, the whole system would be blocked. It's only allowed to close the previous period not the current period.
