3481613 - Stories Blank screen issue due to to browser cache build-up

Symptom

Users experience "blank loading screen" issue when using Story Reports which is due to build of cache in system.

Environment

SAP SuccessFactors HCM Suite

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Navigate to Reporting in SuccessFactors.
  2. Attempt to create or run a Story Report.
  3. Observe a blank screen with three loading dots.

Cause

Engineering has confirmed that this issue can occur due to browser cache build-up. Story Reports rely on cookies and cached data, and excessive cache can interfere with proper loading, resulting in a blank screen.

Resolution

  • Perform a full browser cache and cookies clearing.

To help prevent this issue, always log out properly from SuccessFactors, especially when accessing multiple instances. Simply closing the browser tab may leave session data stored in the cache.

Automatic cache clearing can also be enabled in your browser:

  • In Google Chrome:
    1. Go to Settings > Privacy and Security > Additional Content Settings > On-Device Site Data
    2. Enable: “Delete data sites have saved to your device when you close all windows”
  • In Microsoft Edge:
    1. Go to Settings and more > Settings > Privacy, search, and services
    2. Under Clear browsing data, select Choose what to clear every time you close the browser
    3. Enable: Cookies and other site data

This behavior is related to how browsers manage cached data and session storage, and not to a defect in SuccessFactors or SAP Analytics Cloud.

Story Reports rely on SAP Analytics Cloud technology, which uses advanced browser storage mechanisms. In some cases, the browser may retain residual or outdated data across sessions.

This becomes more likely when sessions are not properly terminated or when cached data is not fully cleared. Using multiple instances in the same browser profile can increase the likelihood, but it is not a requirement for the issue to occur.

Even when automatic data clearing is enabled, not all storage layers are consistently reset. A manual cache clearing ensures a complete reset of browser-stored data, allowing Story Reports to load in a clean and consistent state.
