3481827 - When entering a Contact's Phone Number on a Lead, you receive the error message "Number XYZ exceeds 30 digits and has been shortened. Please check."

Symptom

When creating or editing a Lead, the system is showing an error message "Number XYZ exceeds 30 digits and has been shortened. Please check." when entering a phone number that is longer than 30 digits.

Environment

SAP Cloud for Customer

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Go to the Leads work centre and open the Lead quick create screen
  2. Under the Contact Information section, enter a number larger than 30 digits in the Phone field
  3. You receive the error "Number XYZ exceeds 30 digits and has been shortened. Please check." and the system shortens the phone number to 30 digits

Cause

The limit for the Phone field on a Lead is 30 digits.  However, please note that this does not include non-numeric characters - characters such as plus sign or a hyphen can still be entered, and spaces can be left between digits.

Resolution

This is the expected behaviour of the system.
