Symptom
When viewing journal entries (for example, in the Manage Journal Entries app), the purpose of the field Absolute Exchange Rate is unclear.
Environment
SAP S/4HANA Public Cloud.
Cause
The system displays two exchange rate fields, but their functional difference is not immediately obvious.
Resolution
The Exchange Rate field reflects the exchange rate exactly as stored in the journal entry. Depending on the quotation type, this rate may include a slash “/” (for Indirect Quotation), which represents the reciprocal of the directly quoted rate.
The Absolute Exchange Rate field provides a simplified view. It removes the quotation indicator and shows only the pure numeric value of the exchange rate.
-
If the entry uses Direct Quotation, both fields show the same value.
-
If the entry uses Indirect Quotation, Absolute Exchange Rate shows the direct numeric value without the “/” or reciprocal structure.
This helps users understand the underlying rate without needing to interpret quotation types.
