3485020 - Unable to open Excel when AO has unconfirmed dialogue or is loading data

When AO has unconfirmed dialogue(like Select Data Source dialogue or variable screen), or when AO is loading data, it is no possible to open Excel, a message 'Excel can't do this because a dialogue box is open' pops up and Excel is not launched.

SAP Analysis for Microsoft Office

1. Open Analysis Office.
2. Click 'Insert Data Source' button.
3. With the 'Select Data Source' dialogue still opened, launch Excel from OS start menu.
4. A message 'Excel can't do this because a dialogue box is open' pops up and Excel is not launched.
   
   
   

This symptom is caused by Microsoft Excel design. By default, Microsoft Excel reuses the running Excel process. When there is unconfirmed dialogue or AO is loading data, Excel cannot reuse the running process.

Similar to AO launcher parameter '/app XLS /CreateProcess', which can start the Analysis Add-In using a new process if Microsoft Excel is already running. It is also possible to add a parameter for Excel launcher to make Excel always create a new process when being launched.
Please follow the steps below to add the parameter:

1. In the OS Start menu, right-click the Excel and select 'Open file location'.
2. In the opened folder, right-click the Excel and select 'Properties'.
3. Select Shortcut tab, add the ' /x' parameter at the end of the path in 'Target' field.
