3486003 - After adding a new member in the table, the locked cells turn to showing as unlocked.

Symptom

After adding a new member in the table, the locked cells turn to showing as unlocked (Open state). But when users start to publishing data on these "unlocked" cells, an error occurs:

Sorry, we could not update the member values with your data entries. The restriction is due to data locking. For more information, see our troubleshooting page.

Environment

SAP Analytics Cloud Version 2024.8.8.

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Open a planning story.
  2. Select a combination that has the Locked state.
  3. Click to add members in the table.
  4. After the member is added, the Locked state is changed to Open.
  5. Try to enter and publish the value.
  6. The error occurs: Sorry, we could not update the member values with your data entries. The restriction is due to data locking. For more information, see our troubleshooting page.

Cause

The default lock state defined for the underlying model is Open. (Check via Model Preferences -> Access and Privacy.)

So the new members added to the table will get the default state, namely Open.

With both Locked and Open members, in the story, the Mixed state is shown.

Mixed state will display as editable because we have a mechanism to distribute the values to the members that are Open.

Resolution

  1. Use the default lock state Locked for Data Locking
    • This would mean that all new members coming in with master data updates will get the default lock state Locked
    • Remove other dimensions and leave Date & Version as driving dimensions.
      • This option is appropriate only if your locks are driving by date and versions alone, and you always have the same lock state for all other dimension members.
      • Under this option, both default lock states Open and Locked could be used.
