In SAP MaxDB, the auto_extend feature is designed to automatically add new data volumes to accommodate growing data storage needs. By default, the new volume is created in the same location as the last data volume that was added. Environment variable AutoExtDir can be used to specify an alternative default directory for these new data volumes.
