3491324 - Backup when scaling down SAP Datasphere

Symptom

  • You would like to take a backup of the HANA data in Datasphere and want to know if it is possible.
  • You are trying to scale down of storage as per note 3224686 and as this would cause a deletion and recreation of Datasphere tenant you would like to take a backup of your HANA data.

Environment

SAP Datasphere

Resolution

The HANA DB data cannot be backed up by customers. There is an internal backup process happening for the HANA DB but that is specifically for SAP disaster recovery. This is documented under System Backup and Recovery. There is no process currently that enables the customer to request a restore of the Datasphere tenant or the tenant DB.  However, there is Object backup available for the customer in Datasphere.

  1.  In case customer has another Datasphere tenant, they could import/export objects:
Exporting Content for Sharing with Other Tenants
  2. Another option is to export the object's metadata into CSN file:
Exporting Objects to a CSN/JSON File
