You observed that Pick Task is being created against the Released Demand for a particular Material. However, the Inventory for this Product is currently zero. You want to understand why the system is allowing the creation of the Warehouse Tasks.

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Navigate to the Outbound Logistics Control work center.
  2. Go to the Customer Demand view.
  3. Find the relevant Sales Order ID.
  4. Filter for the relevant Product ID.
  5. You can see the Order Items are Released, but Delivery Status is Not started.
  6. Click Edit.
  7. Go to the Document Flow tab.
  8. Show Extended View.
  9. You can see the Pick Tasks have been created against the Order Line Item although there is no Stock for this Item.

If you check the relevant Material Master, you can observe that the Availability check Scope has been maintained as: "All released supply except PO".

If you then open the Product Planning Details screen of the affected Material, you can see there is a Purchase Order Acknowledged with certain Quantity.

As a result, although the ATP shows late Delivery for the Material, you are able to release the Demand on the basis of the Availability check scope maintained in Material Master.

Since the Demand has been Released, your Employee was able to create the Warehouse Requests. And this led to the Pick Tasks being automatically created in line with the setting in the relevant Logistics Model (Automatic Generation of Tasks).

From the foregoing, we can see that the system is behaving appropriately in this regard. If you do not wish to have the Pick Tasks generated against an expected future Receipt, then you have to maintain your Availability Check Scope accordingly.

You may also consider removing the check of the box "Automatic Generation of Tasks" in the Logistics Model.
