3492938 - After activating the asset shutdown indicator, the asset continues to depreciate -SAP S/4HANA Cloud

Symptom

In the Manage Fixed Assets app, the asset shutdown indicator has been activated for a particular asset, but the planned depreciation is still indicated in that asset.

"Image/data in this KBA is from SAP internal systems, sample data, or demo systems. Any resemblance to real data is purely coincidental."

Environment

SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

Cause

There is a bidirectional check mechanism in the system, which will simultaneously verify the Asset Shut Down indicator in the Asset Master Data and the Shutdown indicator in the Depreciation Key Phases of the depreciation key used in the asset. The cessation of asset depreciation will only occur when both these indicators have been activated.

Resolution

For Asset Shut Down there are 2 settings relevant:

  1. In Asset Master Data: flag for "Asset Shut Down".
  2. In Depreciation Key phases: flag for "Shutdown"

The details of the depreciation key are uneditable. If cessation of depreciation is desired following an asset shutdown, then selection of a depreciation key with an activated shutdown flag is required, or alternatively, an interval can be added within the general parameter section of the asset and the depreciation key can be changed to "0000".
