3494342 - Internal Hire error when adding new pay components upon initiation from RCM - Onboarding

The customer faces the error below when initiating an Internal Hire from Recruiting: “Only one Pay Component can be assigned with the value of Used for Comp Planning as COMP or BOTH.” 

Scenario 1: For an internal hire with an existing pay component (where field Comp Planning = COMP), we pass a single new pay component with the updated Internal Hire employment (where field Comp Planning = BOTH). The candidate is successfully initiated.

Scenario 2: When Onboarding is initiated from RCM with two different pay components:

• One Pay Component - Comp Planning = COMP.
• The other Pay Component - Comp Planning = BOTH.

The initiation fails with the following error: “payComponentRecurring : Only one Pay Component can be assigned with the value of ‘Used for Comp Planning’ as ‘COMP’ or ‘BOTH.’ PayComponent XXX already has this set.”

• Scenario 1 is successful because only one Pay Component is assigned the value 'COMP' or 'BOTH' for 'Used for Comp Planning'.
• In Scenario 2, since Onboarding is initiated with two different pay components passed from RCM to ONB, this error is expected.

• You cannot have two different pay components on the same effective date (the crossboardee's new start date) with Comp Planning set to 'Comp' and 'Both'.
• Kindly send only one record (either 'Comp' or 'Both') from RCM when initiating Onboarding for an internal hire.

To do that, update the field “Used for Comp Planning” “None” for the Pay Component(s) and add it again at employee level.

1. Go to Manage Organization, Pay and Job structures;
2. Select the pay component that needs to be updated and adjust “Used for Comp Planning” field.

Once you make sure that only one pay component for the employee has the field “Used for Comp Planning” set as “both” or “comp,” you can try to update the employee again without issues.
