Symptom

  • Error 'Enter a Number with a maximum of 3 decimal places' is raised when maintaining a Quantity of a component in the Maintain Bill of Material app
  • Error Message "Input must be in the format" No. 00088 when adding more than 3 decimal places to quantity of a component in the Create Bill of Material / Change Bill of Material app

Environment

SAP S/4HANA Cloud Public Edition

Reproducing the Issue

  1. Launch app Maintain Bill of Material
  2. Input Material , Plant and BOM usage
  3. Press Create
  4. Add Component and input Quantity with more than 3 decimal places

Cause

This system is working as designed, it is suggested to refer to SAP KBA 68229 - Bill of material: Decimal places in quantity fields

Resolution

It is suggested to alleviate this problem by adjusting the base quantity contained in the BOM header so that the number of decimal places will fit corresponding situation.

For example, the following quantities are necessary to make 1 of the finished good:

Component A 0.12575
Component B 0.00004
Component C 1.30000
Component D 0.19750
Component E 0.05730

By setting the base unit to 100, it is possible to enter the following quantities in the BOM to achieve the desired combination:

Component A 12.575
Component B 0.004
Component C 130.000
Component D 19.750
Component E 5.730
